How can an image of something that we cannot see become an object? Using a 3D modeling program, a digital image of platinum on an alumina substrate as they occur in the catalytic converter of a car was transformed into a 3 dimensional landscape based on its contrast. The theoretical space inside the program released the image (and its object) from its original scale and gravitational orientation. A core sample of that landscape was then 3D printed and then slip-cast into porcelain. These sculptures reference the material obliquely and directly.
